Chinook Field Office Details

The mission of the Division of Human and Community Services of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is to support the strengths of families and communities by promoting employment and providing the assistance needed to help families and individuals meet basic needs and move out of poverty.

The department provides services such as cash assistance, job training, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance (formerly Food Stamps), Medicaid, child care, meal reimbursement, nutrition training, energy assistance, and weatherization to help families move out of poverty and into independence.

The cash assistance is funded by a federal block grant called Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
The program offers monthly payments to low-income families and children who meet income and resource eligibility standards.
The Work Preparation Section provides employment and training services to individuals receiving cash assistance.
The Supplementary Nutritional Assistance Programmed formerly the Food Stamp Programmed provides benefits to eligible families to supplement their food budget and increase their ability to purchase healthy food.
SNAP Nutrition Education run in conjunction with Montana State University, teaches participants how to use food stamps wisely.
