DHS Family Community Resource Center in Jefferson County Details

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly known as food stamps), is known federally as SNAP. This program provides food assistance to low income families. Individuals must apply for the program and provide all the required supporting documentation.

If approved, individuals will receive a monthly electronic benefit on the Illinois Link Card, which is similar to a debit card, and can be used to purchase food items at authorized grocery stores and other retailers. The amount of benefit will depend on the number of individuals living in the household, monthly expenses, and other relevant factors.

SNAP benefits can be used to purchase:

Any food or food product for human consumption
Seeds and plants for use in home gardens to produce food

SNAP benefits cannot be used to purchase:

Hot foods ready to eat
Food intended to be heated in the store
Lunch counter items or foods to be eaten in the store
Vitamins or medicines
Pet foods
Any nonfood items (except seeds and plants)
Alcoholic beverages
Tobacco

Proof of your identity
Proof of your residence
Proof of Social Security numbers for all people on your application
Other types of documents depending on your circumstances

I received an P-EBT card in the mail with my sons name on it and we tried to register it. When we put his SS# in it stated that it did not match. I am needing to speak to a real person to fix this matter.
