Tift County DFCS Details

The Georgia Food Stamp Program, which is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as SNAP, is part of a federal nutrition program that helps low-income households purchase nutritious food.

Individuals must apply for the program and provide all the required documentation. After the application is filed, the individual must have a telephone interview with a case manager and be prepared to answer questions related to the household situation.

The amount of benefit provided is based on income, resources and the number of individuals in the household. SNAP benefits are issued monthly on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. This EBT card can be used just like a debit card at authorized grocery stores and retailers.

SNAP benefits CAN be used to purchase:

Fruits and vegetables

Meat, poultry, and fish

Dairy products

Breads and cereals

Other foods such as snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages

Seeds and plants, which produce food for the household to eat

SNAP benefits CANNOT be used to purchase:

Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, or tobacco

Vitamins, medicines, and item that have a supplement facts label

Live animals (except shellfish, fish removed from water, and animals slaughtered prior to pick-up from the store)

Prepared Foods fit for immediate consumption

Hot foods

Any nonfood items such as:

- Pet foods

- Cleaning supplies, paper products, and other household supplies

- Hygiene items, cosmetics

I have been contacted 2 times for phone interview.But was called 1 time for date change. Was supposed to be for today, they have not called .

I have been trying to contact my case manage. She is never answering the phone not do she ever clean off the messages on her machine. This is crazy. I need the food stamps for me and my granddaughter.
