    The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which was formally called the "Food Stamp Program" assists low-income individuals in purchasing nutritious food. To be eligible for SNAP benefits, individuals/families must provide income, expenses, and other information relevant to program guidelines. This will also determine the amount of benefit received. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, pet food, paper products, and other non-food items cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits.

    The SNAP benefit amount is placed on an EBT card, which can be used just as a debit card at authorized grocery stores and other retailers. When an individual/family is approved to receive SNAP benefits, they will receive a Nebraska EBT card via mail. Is it very important for individuals to be registered through the U.S. Postal Service to receive their EBT card.
