    The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly know as SNAP, helps low-income individuals and family members purchase nutritious food. Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, pet food, paper products, vitamins, medicines and other non-food products cannot be purchased with the SNAP benefit. Amount of benefit is determined depending on household size, income, expenses, and other criteria.

    SNAP benefit is provided to approved recipients through an EBT card, which is just like a debit card. EBT cards are mailed directly to recipients via U.S. mail. EBT cards are accepted at authorized grocery stores, supermarkets, and other retailers.
