    The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is a federally funded program that provides nutritional assistance to millions of eligible, low-income people and families.
    SNAP is the largest program in the domestic hunger protection network.
    The aim of the SNAP programme is to help improve the health and well-being of households and low-income earners by providing them with a means of meeting their nutritional needs.
    They are not intended to meet all the food needs of the household or individual.
    The use of other resources such as food pantries and WIC, in addition to SNAP, will help to stretch household food budgets.

    One does not have to be in poverty to qualify for SNAP benefits.
    You can receive benefits even if you are working and have other income.

    In Oregon, the Department of Social Services administers the SNAP program.
    Eligibility determination and benefit issuance are provided through DHS and aaa offices throughout the state.
    Benefits are distributed through the state EBT system, which allows people to access their benefits with an "Oregon Trail Card" at vending machines in grocery stores.
