Puerto Rico operates this program instead of a supplemental nutrition program.
Requirements and amounts of benefits are determined by Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico offers 75 percent of the benefits of nutritional assistance to purchase food from certified retailers and 25 percent in cash for the purchase of food from certified and non-certified retailers through the Commonwealth's Electronic Benefits Transfer System.
To qualify, you must reside in Puerto Rico, and you may have resources (savings accounts, bank accounts, etc.) up to $2,000.
Households with a person who is 60 years or older or is completely disabled can have up to $3,000 in resources.
Households in Puerto Rico must meet a net income limit, which varies according to the number of people in the household.
The net income is calculated by taking the total amount of income from the family and subtracting deductions by income type, family member type and some permitted expenses.
