Puerto Rico administers this program instead of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
The conditions of eligibility and the amount of benefits are determined by Puerto Rico.
Puerto Rico provides 75% of nutritional assistance benefits for food purchases at certified and non-certified retailers and 25% in cash for food purchases at certified and non-certified retailers through the Commonwealth electronic benefit transfer system.
To qualify for this benefits program, you must live in Puerto Rico and you may have resources (savings accounts, bank accounts, etc.) of up to $2,000.
Families with 60 years or older or fully disabled can have up to $3,000 in resources.
Households in Puerto Rico must meet the net income limit, which varies according to the number of persons in the family.
Net income is calculated by taking the total amount of household income and deducting deductions for the type of income, the type of household members and certain allowable expenses.
