    The Georgia Food Stamp Program, which is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as SNAP, is part of a federal nutrition program that helps low-income households purchase nutritious food.

    Individuals must apply for the program and provide all the required documentation. After the application is filed, the individual must have a telephone interview with a case manager and be prepared to answer questions related to the household situation.

    The amount of benefit provided is based on income, resources and the number of individuals in the household. SNAP benefits are issued monthly on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. This EBT card can be used just like a debit card at authorized grocery stores and retailers.


    SNAP benefits CAN be used to purchase:
    Fruits and vegetables
    Meat, poultry, and fish
    Dairy products
    Breads and cereals
    Other foods such as snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages
    Seeds and plants, which produce food for the household to eat


    SNAP benefits CANNOT be used to purchase:
    Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, or tobacco
    Vitamins, medicines, and item that have a supplement facts label
    Live animals (except shellfish, fish removed from water, and animals slaughtered prior to pick-up from the store)
    Prepared Foods fit for immediate consumption
    Hot foods
    Any nonfood items such as:
    - Pet foods
    - Cleaning supplies, paper products, and other household supplies
    - Hygiene items, cosmetics

      poor communication help with services no can of supervisor help. phone always full or no messages can get through take more than 30 day to even get a response. need better help.

      Needing help with food stamps I applied 4 weeks ago I have had 4 different Caseworkers no assistants from supervisors, do not answer phone, do not return messages. Received 2 letters in the mail, one giving me a call for a appointment. Did not call also, second letter was terminating my food stamp, Because they said : Failure to call. Called every other day, before and after this appointment, kept starting over, said they would give it to supervisor. Trying to get help, Thank You.
