Tuscaloosa County Department of Human Resources (DHR) Details
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Alabama is administered by the Food Assistance Division. Its purpose is to provide monthly benefits to low-income families/households so that they can purchase nutritious food at authorized grocery stores, farmers' markets and other retailers.
Individuals must apply for the SNAP program. An application must be filled out and all supporting documentation must be provided. When approved, SNAP benefits are issued monthly and put on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which looks just like a credit card. The benefit amount depends on number of individuals in household, income, expenses, and other factors pertinent to program guidelines.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Provide names for all individuals living in household
- Provide proof of residence
- Provide social security numbers
- Provide proof of Citizenship and/or Alien Status
- Provide proof of income, and expenses
- Provide additional information as required
Special Note:
The Alabama Elderly Simplified Application Project (AESAP) is an application process for households where all the members are 60 years of age or older and have no earned income. Contact the office for further details.

I can’t get assistance on the phone the number keeps saying it’s busy an the other number want connect me to a representative an it want read the party extension correct I’ve been waiting a week for my case manger to open my email for information I haven't received or heard from her in a week I called last week sometime an talk to a lady an she said to give a call in a few day because she hasn’t updated her email yet an it took me for ever to get her on the phone an I’m in need so food assistance an can’t seem to get y’all to actually put a little bit of care in to it.
System is flawed. And you wonder why people lie to get food stamps - you got to be on your deathbed with a hole dug to put you in before you can actually get foodstamps if you are a hard working individual going through a temporary situation. But those having 10 kids and don't work a bit can get stamps in about 1 second.
I am trying to get the email to the local office to send in my proof of residency and my identity.
